Enterprise 3.5 VNC Manager evaluation

I am evaluating VNC Manager and have run into a few issues that I cannot tell if these are a limitation of the trail software:

1. Active directory is grayed out everywhere, import, search, etc.

2. I had noticed a forum post saying ACL deployments are possible in 3.5, but I have only seen an IP address allow/deny and not one for domain groups. Am I missing something?

3. Comparison chart shows 'Show "Who is Logged On" to remote PC' as one of the features of 3.5 enterprise. Does this display who is logged into windows or VNC, as all the entries for this column are empty?

4. If a new version of UltraVNC comes out, i.e. security fix, are users able to replace the deployment package of whichever vnc package they are using, or does this require an update to VNC Manager?

5. After going to tools, options, defaults, vnc session, edit default settings and changing something, hitting the apply to all servers button does not apply changes to any servers

Great product, one of the best I've seen, so any help or answers would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are evaluating the Standard Edition, which has these features disabled.

"Show Who is Logged On" displays users logged into Windows. There is no way to show users logged into the VNC server.

When a new version of a VNC distribution gets released within a week we release a new build of the VNC Manager, with updated VNC deployment packages.

Could you please post detailed list of steps to reproduce the problem?

No, my bad, I found I could type in the spaces, just looked like it was grayed out. AD search and registration worked fine.
"Show Who is Logged On" displays users logged into Windows. There is no way to show users logged into the VNC server.

That being said, all the columns are blank. Do I need to fill in the contact details for each user? If so, how to deal with PC's that have multiple users?
When a new version of a VNC distribution gets released within a week we release a new build of the VNC Manager, with updated VNC deployment packages.

Cool, makes sense that if they change the code in VNC you'd have to change VNC manager to accommodate that.
Could you please post detailed list of steps to reproduce the problem?

Could please a screenshot of this dialog taken after you had fetched some users?

Windows does not provide any API to retrieve contact details for local users accounts. Simply because such information doesn't exists. But if you have an active directory based computer then it's possible to fetch a computer's associated contact details from the active directory. This feature is available under the Inventory tab of registered computer properties dialog.

Is the AD computer contact information what is displayed in the User Full Name, User First Name, etc. columns and do you have to fetch for each PC? None of my computer objects has contact information populated in AD, and if I did have the information in AD, what if someone else (not the AD contact) logged onto a computer, how would you be able to tell who it is? Perhaps a small client app, if possible, installed with the deployment of VNC to capture some of this type of non-api information would be more helpful.

Sorry about my last post about computer contact info in AD, I should have thought it through a little better before replying. Attached is a screenshot after I have tried to fetch the contact info. This happens for every computer. Is there anyway to set the default AD context somewhere, setting the domain name each time and then getting 5 or 6 levels deep becomes quite a chore?

seems like that you forgot to attach the screenshot. Could you email to support@s-code.com?

You can mass-change settings on a registered computeres via Tools->Options->Defaults command.

I don't see anything in tools-options menu that will allow me to set the default AD context. Am I missing something?

well actually you are right. What you can set in the Registered Computer properties is a domain name. Which is helpful too. Since this value is used by Fetch AD Contact Details dialog. But you are right it's impossible to enter default AD path in the dialog.

Don't know if you got my e-mail from a couple days ago with the screenshot, so I will try to submit it this way. This is for the contact info not being populated. Also, the MAC address only shows for the local subnet. Does VNC Manager use ARP for the MAC address resolution? I can use nbtstat and a network security scanner to get the MAC's from WAN subnets, but not VNC Manager.
