Hi,

I searched the manual and forums, but didn't find anything about this. I couldn't find a way to set VNC Manager to always use the WMI method of network scanning so that the MAC address is always returned, even on computer not in the LAN, but for those that might be on other virtual LANS, subnets, or in VPN remote offices.

Show OS version in a new column

Connection name listing for Execute Remote Command

When I open the 'SmartCode Remote Exec' window, it show the ip address and type of the machines that the external command is going to be run on. Can you have this window also include the 'Connection Name' field? It would be great if we could also see that on the 'Executing Remote Command' window that opens when you click execute.

Execute remote command using custom properties

I am involved in firmware testing at my company and we have a large number of different tests that are to be tested on different machines. What would really help us out in this procedure is if we could use the custom properties as variables in various execute remote command tools. I haven't seen very much documentation regarding the custom properties usage in the knowledgebase or on the forums, is this feature already implemented?

automatically update the VNC-thumbnail computers

A practical additional feature (or feature that I haven't located yet) is to be able to configure for a certain group that all VNC sessions of a certain
VNC-Thumbnail group should be visible without exexceptions automatically.

It is easy to do that now when you create a new group.
But when a VNC configuration is added to the group it must always be done manually.
I would like to have the possibility to activate an option on the group "[b]Show all VNC connections of this group in TAB "abc", and if a VNC connection is added or removed from the group, then the TAB "abc" thumbnails will be adapted to add or remove the specific Thumnail-VNC session[/b]" (if necessary this will only be active from the next refresh or startup of the program

further explanation :
Suppose I make a group “VNC to watch”. And I put several VNC configurations in it, Once I have created them (let’s say 8 VNC-connections) I can add them to a tumbnailgroup with CTRL+MAJ+T (for instance in thumbnailgroup “VNC watch”). I can configure the program so that these thumbnail VNC connections are always started when I start the program (this is a great feature).
Now suppose that I want to add a nineth connection to the group “VNC to watch”. I Create it in the group “VNC to watch”
In the current situation I have to add it manually to the thumbnailgroup “VNC watch” (Right mouse and “Add to VNC watch Tab”
In my proposal it is automatically added to the Tab “VNC watch” because the group properties are marked as “automatically put new VNC connections in the thumnailgroup “VNC watch” (and of course if a VNC connection is removed from the group, it is removed from the thumbnail group “VNC watch”

Another (maybe easier) option could be that when clicking on the group in the menu RIGHT-MOUSE -> VNC Thumbnails View -> add to New TAB (or add to Default TAB or add to VNC Watch Tab) you also make an option “add to New to new/default/VNC watch TAB if not already present”

Of course the same question applies to Hyper-V thumbnails

Export feature to folder level

It would be a great time saver if there was a feature to export settings by folder allowing me to manage all of our users settings within my own console. Currently, I have to backup my settings, delete all of the registered computers that others should not have access to, then backup those settings.. move them to the other users computer, import them... and then restore my original configuration. All of this, of course, requires that we are on the same version and edition.

What I would like to see is the ability to export a folder, including or not the sub folders, to a configuration file that can be used to import into another console.

This would be much like exporting settings in REGEDIT, but with the added ability to include or not the sub folders.

Xen Management

How about a tool to manage the Xen Virtual infrastructure. I know you have hyper-v support, but we use Virtual Iron (Oracle) which is based on Xen. Citrix Xen Server is also based on Xen. I don't know what all these flavors have in common, but a built in tool would be great!

Default location for Description

Every time I upgrade the Manager, I need to move the Description over to the left to see it without scrolling over. The three main items I use are "Name" "Description" and "Address". The "Description" is pulled in from AD, thus is needed to locate the PC easier. Our names of the PCs are asset tags....which makes it harder to search for a PC.

I don't know how many others use the system this way.....but it is just a suggestion.

I would like to suggest a tool to manage remote PC scheduled tasks. Right now, it's a pain to implement a scheduled task on multiple PCs because you have to log into each system separately.

OS-X vnc support

Since I'm giving out request here. How about VNC support for the MacOs X vnc server. As I understand it the protocol is standard VNC it's just different authentication method. The VNC manager finds the servers but it just doesn't authenticate. Shouldn't be to big of a deal if the info is somewhere in http://developer.apple.com/. Or just asking Apple.

More options for the "Computers registration Wizzard"

The "Computers registration Wizzard" works like a dream. I have it set so that I can scan from the root of the domain and it will add any new devices.
The problem I have is with the "Naming Convention".

To make it easier on our help desk personnel, we change the name of the device to reflect the user and department it is in. This way they can quickly sort and control that device.

So, I would want to create a new entry for a device "address" that does not exist and skip creation if it does.

I know that their is the "description" field in the manager that gets sucked in from AD, but we have all descriptions in the manager and not in AD. (We got our cart before our horse)
So this would aid us until AD is up to date.

VNC during remote execute

One other feature that would help would be to allow functionality of lower windows (especially VNC windows) while other task windows, such as execute remote command, are open. Currently as soon as you open the execute remote command window, you are locked out of all other windows, even if you change the VNC window to an external window you can't look at it. Thanks :)

We assign workstations to users in Active Directory and then import the information inside Contact Details on VNC Manager. I would like some way to do that for an entire Computer Group. Would be really handy when the company plays musical chairs with the employees.

We have about six (6) users, and if one makes a change, all the changes someone else has done will not be saved....or if he exits and saves, it will over write the previous persons work. Not that changes happen that much, but it does creep up now and then......

User Definable Settings

Current VNC Manager has settings for "Global", "Parent", and "For this computer". What would be ultimately useful is to allow the user to setup pre-defined settings that could be applied to multiple computers, or groups of computers quickly. For instance, I have 3 main groups of computers. The "Users" and my "Servers" and the "Remotes". I use VNC for all the users computers for maximum flexibility and support ability. For the server however, I use RDP which requires a totally different setup. I also have remote users that have different settings too. If I could define 3 user named settings sets to apply easily to each computer depending on it's group, or just individually it would simplify administration greatly. Right now I use "global" settings for the main users group, but have to manually apply settings to each computer in "Servers" and in the "Remotes", and also adjust a few computers that may be associated differently. With a handful of pre-defined settings, it would be much quicker.

Master connection history database

I know this one is easy! ;)

I would greatly benefit from a central connection history database of sorts, ie a log that you can open up quickly that would show what computers you connected to and at what time, starting with the most recent connection!

I know each machine holds histories, but a lot of my connections are ad-hoc, ie I will receive a call and the user will just tell me their IP or hostname, which I'll connect to using 'quick connect'. The problem with this is if I need to disconnect from the host for whatever reason (reboot, VNC crash etc.), once I've disconnected there is no way of reconnecting to that same computer without remembering the IP and entering it again in 'quick connect'.

Although most of the time I can remember the IP or hostname, occasionally I will forget it and will generally have to call the user back to ask for the details again!

It would be nice in these situations to open the log and see, "Ah yeah 10.x.x.x was the IP address"

I would guess the information would as a minimum need to record the hostname/IP, date/time of connection, connection type (VNC, RDP etc) to be useful? Perhaps taking it further it could have a duration counter or a connected and disconnected date stamps. And perhaps a reconnect button next to each entry so you can jump back to the connection!

That would be a fantastic feature I do believe! :w00t:

Keyboard Shortcuts

It sure would be nice to be able to customize my own Keyboard shortcut keys for tasks i am constantly doing all the time within VNC Manager. Any idea when you plan on including this feature in a future release? Still waiting very anxiously. Thanks.

Printer Migration Tool

A feature that would be nice is the ability to user the microsoft printer migration tool remotely. Backup the printer on one workstation and then deploy the printers to another workstation.

Deletion confirmation when deleting dynamic folders

Delete confirmation when deleting dynamic search folders I believe should be default.

Too many times I've accidentally hit the delete button and deleted a search folder, and with no 'undo' feature this is very annoying!

Also if you hit the 'delete' key during a wizard (for example the VNC Deployment wizard), even though the focus is on the wizard window, the selected dynamic search folder will be deleted instead!

We came across this when we were trying to delete some text out of a text box within the deployment wizard, the focus was on the text box but when we hit the delete key to delete the text, the dynamic search folder in the background was deleted, WITH NO CONFIRMATION!

I believe this is a bug and would request it to be fixed asap!

Also this has been around for many versions; it is not unique to the latest version!

WMI Querie tool + Regcast tool + 2 more!

Four features/tools I would love to see included in VNC Manager;

1. A WMI Querie tool.
2. A regcast tool (to roll out windows registry .reg files to multiple machine in batch mode).
3. The ability to connect to a machine, install VNC, connect to vnc, then uninstall VNC all in one process, ie a temporarily VNC session.
4. A connect to me tool generator (to use with the listening server). This tool would look at the computer's IP address etc (local or public IP could be the option), the program would then generate a tiny .exe file which we could send to clients that we perhaps do not have permission to administer (for example an employees personal laptop). They could run the file, it would load a UVNC 'SC' type environment that would automatically connect to me!

These tools would definitely mean Smart-Code VNC Manager would be our 'one stop shop' PC management software package! :w00t:

Parsing all selected servers as arguments to external tool

I have a suggestion which would benefit me...

I have a few scripts which I've got set up as external tools (eg, determine a computer's uptime). I've written the scripts to take multiple arguments, but VNC Manager will only pass a single computer name at a time. Maybe there could be a configuration option in the external tool setup screen that says "pass multiple selections as single arguments (open tool multiple times)" or "pass multiple selections as multiple arguments (open tool once)"

Just an idea...

Keyboard Shortcuts Request

It would be nice to program Keyboard Shortcuts to features or tasks i use most often. For example resetting a password I can just type ctrl-alt-P or whatever i choose, opening up the $C Drive i can type ctrl-Shift-C or something I choose. This would be very helpful and make things alot quicker for me. Please consider in a future build. Thanks.

Network Dirves & Printers

Got a suggestion that may be helpful to some peopple - I know it would be for me.

When you're editing computer properties and you have a heap of computers, it's pretty time consuming and annoying to:
- Right click on the computer
- Click properties
- Make the change
- Click ok
- Repeat for each computer

A few bits of other software I've used have 'save & next' and 'save & previous' buttons, so you only have to open up the properties box once, make the change, click Next, made the change, click Next, etc. Once you reach the end of the list, the button disables or displays a 'at the end of the list' type message.

AND/OR (even better)

It'd be quite useful to be able to make bulk property changes to computers that are in the list. (not through inheritance - which doesn't seem to want to work on my dynamic search folders??). Should be able to multiselect computers and open up a properties box which would apply to all selected computers, rather than a single one.

Unrelated, is there a way to have VNC Manager AUTO-CONNECT to a list of servers on startup? Say an entire server group? I have 3 machines I'd like it to connect to automatically every time I start it up... Thanks in advance!

REQUEST 2 ==============

A hotkey to switch between "tabs" when viewing your connections. That way I can switch between server "a" and server "b" with one press of a button instead of having to use the mouse to switch back and forth using the tabs. It would be cool if the hotkey would be assignable for each tab.

REQUEST 3 ==============

When I do a "new vertical tab group" the viewers often "freeze", meaning the screen does not refresh/update. Looking at my thumbnail previews, they are updating, but the main viewer area is not updating. If I do a "Full Screen Refresh" it updates, but it does not continue to update. Ideally I would like to have 3-4 machines connected, and be able to see all of the desktops at once and simply click between them quickly :D

REQUEST 4 ==============

Import/Export Configurations. I couldn't find a way to do this natively, so I had to select "save configuration", then grab the XML's from the Application Data folder and move them manually to another machine, then update the files manaully with the new path, etc.

Something else that would be an excellent feature would be the ability to connect a VPN (and maybe even automate disconnect) when connecting to servers. The ability to assign a VPN connection to a folder would make life so much easier.

Better Support for Multi Monitor

I presently use 3 monitors at my workstation to help me manage the multitude of PCs and server s I support. Am going to move to 5 within the month. Would be terrific if VNC Manager better handled this condition. I have tried streatching out the main window, but invariably, the remot session screen is "cut" but the break in-between monitors. I couldn't even fathom how you would implement this, but it sure would be terrific if you could, even if you had tab groups ask if you want to display in different monitors...

View only mode

We need VNC Manager for our clients, so they can monitor their PCs in LAN. However we want to limit the use to view only - they would not able to control PCs. We simply don't want they interfere with PC. They only can check the PC status (what is on the screen). Is such a mode possible ?

Ability to create Keyboard Shortcut Keys

I think it would be really useful to create custom Keyboard Shortcut keys for your most often used commands, or at least add your most used commands to a custom toolbar, sort of like Microsoft Apps have the ability to do. Sure would beat going through mutliple nested menus to access certain features.
