High CPU Usage

Created a ticket in the support system and attached the error logs.

VNC Manager v5.0.13.0 RC2
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Memory: 2GB
OS: Windows XP Pro with SP3 (32-bit)

I upgraded to VNC Manager v5.0.13.0 RC2 a couple of days ago. I left it running on my desktop PC yesterday and over night. When coming back to my PC this morning I found it running extremely slow. Looking at task manager, I find that vncmanager.exe is using around 50% CPU.

I was able to get VNC manager to display. It had 4 active VNC tabs and 1 active HTTP tab. I was able to close all tabs. No CPU difference.

I then looked at active tasks. The Computer Status Updater was at 24529 of 25012 computers. I don't have 25000 computers on my network. Even with many of my PCs duplicated in my VNC Manager tree, I only have no more than 600PCs. Less than 300 actual PCs. The Default VNC/RDP scan was also at 2022 of 2032 PCs. Again, more PCs than I have in the tree.

I tried canceling the Computer Status Updater. and relieved an "Unhandled exception.... Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. See attached log1 for the details of this error. The task was no longer running. VNC Manager continued running with 50% CPU.

I then tried canceling the Default VNC/RDP Scan. It would not cancel. No error, just wouldn't cancel. (No progression through number of PCs either - neither task was progressing through their counts)

I then tried closing VNC Manager using the X. "Unhandled Exception... Object reference not set..." again. See attached log2. Program remained running and with 50% CPU.

Had to use task manager to end the vncmanager executable.

This might be an "improvement" in behavior I've been seeing in the previous 5.x betas. When leaving VNC manager running for longer periods of time, it would always close out and give me the Microsoft "Send error report..." dialog. This time it didn't automatically close out, but allowed me to see a little more what was going on.

Dear sirs,
I started with version 5.0.11, when installing version 5.0.12.1, I had to re-enter my serial-number.
Now I just installed version 5.0.13, and once again I have to re-enter the serial number.

Question : Is it not possible that the installation program chekcs and remembers the serial number of the previous version?

Since there doesn't seem to be much activity here I am going to post a few.

I would really like to have VM as a portable application. It doesn't seem like it would be a stretch. For many support people having this in their pockets would make life a dream. I carry all my essential tools on a USB stick except VM. All my VM configs are on the stick as well as the latest install file but I feel very lost if I have no way to install it.

The most important new feature in this build is the new network scan engine. Using the new version scanning a local subnet for VNC/RDP/SSH computers takes less than a minute. For comparison sake, the v4.5 takes 2-4 minutes to scan the same subnet.
By default, during scan, each Dynamic Search Folder (DSF) uses thread pool of 5 threads. The maximum number of threads is 20 and it can b changed via DSF properties sheet window. The same applies to the registered computers and the "Entire Network" status updater.

Builtin SSH vs putty

Hello many thx for implementing this feature.
This is the reason why i bought SmartCode VNC Enterprise.
Now the thing that are not so good.
The speed of ssh client is slow comparing to putty.
The speed am referring is scrolling speed of terminal window.
Next thing I having trouble with Colors in midnight commander,
you can seen the screenshoot.
Also there is the problem with function keys. I did not succeed using
F10 key for exiting midnight commander.
Also MC screen does not fill the hole window.
I am using RC version of SmartCode 5.0.10.0

Duplicates of every computer, new in 5.0.11

After installing v5.0.11, all of my dynamic folders now list duplicates of every computer twice. Each computer is listed like "computer" and "computer :0"....

Also, I'd like to make a feature request (I know it's totally unrelated and super late in the game)...It would be a great addition if we could have a OS Version column, which would list the version of the OS installed (this can be found out remotely by various means, and for me, it would be quite useful to get that info into a column automatically).

First thing's first though - this bug in 5.0.11 is a problem for me, for sure.

Unable to connect with ICA client

Unable to connect with ICA client using 128-Bit encryption set as a global option, folder option, or computer specific option. Server responds that the client doesn't have correct encryption level. Enterprise Version 5.0.11.0.

Connecting from the same machine using IE7 Vista64 Enterprise SP2 and current local ICA web client works fine.

Slow connect to VNC Server

Hello,

i experience slow connects to vnc servers (latest ultra or tightvnc). it often takes up to two minutes to connect to the vnc servers. The windows stays white with the message "Connecting to ...".
I checked with the tightvnc viewer and it connects immediatly.
If i before vnc manager has connected to the server the programm freezes and and stays unresponsive till i close it.
In the Eventlog i get this:

VNC Deployment slow

Hi,

in 5.11 it now takes up 15 minutes to deploy one single tightvnc package over a 100mbit network.
i see now for about 10 minutes this:

Again everything xp sp3 all updates german, both machines core2duo ~2ghz with 2gb.
For the record, uninstall is the same speed, it takes more than 5 minutes for the wizard to recognize that there ist no ultravnc 1.02 to uninstall, again 5 minutes for 10.5.x to get uninstalled and so on.
w2k3 domain network with no problems with dns, wins and so on. pings work fine with <1ms, networkspedd how it should be with 100mb\s.

VNC Deployment Wizard settings

I just noticed in 5.0.10 that the option to use the saved configuration settings for the deployment wizard no longer exist. I have to go through the entire wizard each time.

I'm hoping this is a beta thing or the functionality has been moved elsewhere in the program that I don't see yet. :unsure:

Problem with Check VNC/RDP/SSH Status

I have a folder with 343 computers in it. If I select half of them and right mouse click on the selection, click on "check VNC/RDP/SSH Staus", many report as all "x"s (no response). If I take one of the computers that reported no response, and run the check singularly, then I get information back.......

SSH to Cisco PIX 501 without 3DES enabled

Hello;

I'm trying to connect to a couple of Cisco PIX 501s via ssh. These devices only have DES enabled, not 3DES. However, I can't connect to them. I can connect fine with PuTTY, so I know ssh is configured correctly on the devices.

When I try and connect, I get the errors:

Failed to establish SSH connection.

Error:InvalidCRC

Any ideas?

Exactly how am I supposed to import registered computers if the export uses comma or tab separated file, but the import uses an xml? I'm trying to load the registered computers from a 4.5 installation to 5.0 beta.

I posted this in 4.5 beta I think but it deserves repeating. I wrote a tips and tricks about using VNCManager to access VMware virtual machine clients. It entailed adding three lines to a virtual machine configuration file. I don't believe it should be very difficult to access the files. I think SOAP is used. Problem connecting VNC Servers

Hello,

i have the problem, that the vnc manager often hangs when connecting to a remote computer running tightvnc.
It stops responding with the "Connecting to VNC Server ..." screen and the only solution is to kill it via task manager.
Connecting with the tightvnc viewer is no problem.
An other problem is, that the VNC Manager stops responding and i have to kill the process if i accidently try to connect to
remote machine that is turned of.

All PCs running XP SP3 32bit and the latest beta of VNC Manager.

Installed Software Manager - adapt for multiple computers at once

I'd like to suggest an extension to the Installed Software Manager to allow it to manage software on multiple selected computers at once.

Eg. At the moment, to do an audit of installed software on each PC, you need to do each one-by-one. It'd be great to be able to select an entire subnet and run an audit on them (and be able to uninstall blue-dotted ones). Would require a "computer name" column to be added in the grid, as well as a redesign of the 'enter computer name' toolbar to support multiple computers, like a lot of the other functions in vnc manager.

Maybe eventually, to make it easier to manage a grid with multiple computers and multiple bits of software, it can be extended to allow grouping by columns, as well as sorting by columns. That way, for example, you could group by the computer name, and collapse the list as well if you wanted.

Internal Viewer Connect Problems

I'm having problems with VNC 5.0 in connecting to remote machines that are connected to my network via VPN tunneling. The viewer also is very slow to connect to local computers too, but does connect usually in about 10 to 15 seconds. But remote computers will not establish the screen at all. The remote user will see his UVNC icon change color, and the screen flash as normal when connecting, but I'll never see their screen inside VNCManager. If I use 1.5.6 UVNC Viewer standalone there is no problem at all.

Remote computers are XP, local VNCManager computer is Windows 7. I'm sure it's a Windows 7 issue and think it's due to firewall changes in Windows 7 because I don't recall this problem under Vista. Just not sure where to start in trying to figure it out. Any ideas?

MAC address capitalisation behaviour

I haven't checked everywhere to confirm all the places that this occurs, but I'll give my example.

When I scan for a MAC address (either method) out of a dynamic folder, the MAC address is in capitals (the way I like them). When I go into computer properties, it forces the address into lower case, leaving me with a mix of upper and lower case MAC addresses

Can you make it so it either leaves them as-is, or all methods of scanning result in either lower or upper (my preference is for upper)

I added a range to check. A 192.168.111.1 in the from range and somehow 192.168.2.254 in the to range. Should prompt for out of range or something. When I noticed it was scanning 27435 addresses I hit cancel. It looked like the scan kept on going to the end although very fast.

Failed to find the uninstall registry key. Assuming failed installation.

Dynamic folders

I find the Global settings dialog confusing. I don't use dynamic folders that often so that may be the issue. I think that Global setting should be access separately from the dynamic folder properties page. A right click menu choice perhaps. It shouldn't look the same as the dynamic folders page either. If I have the Global setting radio button selected, the display should reflect the global settings not the list of custom ones. For instance Ports, should show the Global setting rather than the custom settings. I only know whether I want to choose a custom setting if I know that the global setting isn't what I want. Same with IP addresses. If I have a global setting I should see the global values unless I select custom. IMHO

If I do a "general scan" using RDP/SSH/VNC/ couldn't each detected computer be assigned the detected connection type. So if the scan detects VNC but my default connection type is RDP, set the connection type radio button to RDP in the detected computer.

High CPU

I have a problem where the VNC Manager suddenly starts using 100% CPU.

This appears to happen when left in the background with or with any VNC or RDP connections open. I have installed in on 2 other machines to see if the problem resides on just one machine but all three do exactly the same thing.

If any else experiencing such problems or is there something in the setup that I can change??

I am running v5.0.3.0 but this also used to happen in v4.5.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Send Console Message

If I try to use the send console message, I will get a status that "the user name could not be found". I notice that it was trying to send to the machine name. Should this be sending the message to the logged in user?

Yuri, since I have corresponded with you over the years, I would like to say a big thanks. Several of my suggestions or requests have made it into the program so it has been fun watching the development. VM has been an invaluable tool for me over the years and I just want to say thanks to you and the crew.
